Sir James Galway - The Man with the Golden Flute - needs no introduction. Sir James is regarded as both the supreme interpreter of the classical flute repertoire and a consummate entertainer whose appeal crosses all musical boundaries. Over more than half a century, he has established himself as a household name who has sold over 30 million records worldwide and won a host of awards along the way.
My first connection with Sir James came through the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra, who asked me to write a 15 minute suite of Irish Airs for him to perform with them at their St. Patrick’s day celebration concert in March 2012. Since then, it has been my honour to contribute several arrangements to his concert library and write for his appearance with his wife, Lady Jeanne Galway, on BBC Songs of Praise (2017).
Sir James and his wife are also passionate about music education and I have greatly enjoyed working closely with them on their online flute course, Galway First Flute (www.firstflute.com). As part of the team working on the ongoing development of their educational programmes, I have also produced all the sheet music downloads for Galway First Flute, made available to students who register online for the inspiring course.
